Community experiences
Selected positive personal experiences from external communities, edited and summarized. These accounts do not establish effectiveness.
A contributor who found it hard to fall back asleep after waking five or six hours into the night wrote that, during about three weeks of using glycine, returning to sleep after waking became easier. They were also taking magnesium, and later described a mix of good and poor nights, including a night of sound sleep after forgetting both products. In a later reply they still described an overall benefit, but the account does not demonstrate a consistent effect every night or changes in sleep stages.

What is Glycine?
Glycine is an amino acid used to build proteins and is also made in the body. Standalone glycine and ingredients containing bound glycine should be distinguished.
On Supplecipe, you can search iHerb products that mention Glycine and compare single-ingredient products against broader supplement blends.
Evidence and limitations
A small crossover trial in 11 adults dissatisfied with their sleep reported improvements in subjective sleep quality and sleep-onset latency. Its small size and short duration do not establish treatment of chronic insomnia or lasting benefits.
Forms and other names
Glycine is the amino acid name. Betaine (TMG) and dimethylglycine (DMG) are different compounds, not alternative names for glycine.
Related ingredients
Related reading, not a recommendation to combine supplements.
Side effects and cautions
A short, small trial does not establish the safety of prolonged high-dose use. Discuss medical conditions and medicines with a professional, and seek assessment for persistent sleep problems.
How to compare iHerb products
- Check separately declared glycine per serving. Neither magnesium content nor the total weight of a mineral glycinate is the glycine amount; for powders, check the actual scoop weight in g or mg.
- Look for form, serving size, extra ingredients, allergens, and whether the product is a single ingredient or a blend.
- Compare brand, price per serving, ingredient form, and single-ingredient versus complex products.
