Community experiences

Selected positive personal experiences from external communities, edited and summarized. These accounts do not establish effectiveness.

A contributor who had been using bilberry wrote that it helped their vision, including seeing at night, and eye dryness after cataract surgery. They listed at least five but less than ten years of use, without identifying the product, dose or other eye treatments. This was a subjective account from someone with a history of eye surgery, not an improvement confirmed by vision testing or evidence that it could replace ophthalmic care.

Experience shared by external community contributor A

A contributor who had experienced blurry vision for some time wrote that it improved after a few weeks of using bilberry gelcaps. They distinguished between products from the same brand: they had found the earlier gelcaps helpful but were less sure about the newer capsules. Without the amounts, formulas or vision-test results for either product, the account cannot establish that one dosage form is superior or that all bilberry products have the same effect.

Bilberry products and vision claims

Distinguish bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) fruit, leaves and extracts. NCCIH reports that the most rigorous studies have not found improved night vision in healthy people. An eye-health category is not evidence that a product works.

Compare the plant part and extract milligrams. A separately stated anthocyanin percentage is not the same as the entire extract weight. If lutein is also included, read each ingredient’s declaration separately.

What is Bilberry?
